Multi-market backtests
A strategy that only works on one instrument is usually luck. That's why HorizonAI doesn't wait for you to ask: the first time a new strategy is ready in the Horizon platform, the assistant backtests it across several markets at once, and shows you the whole grid, not just the best number.
What happens, automatically
Describe a strategy on the create page (or click one of the idea links: a trend-following idea · a reversal idea · surprise me) and the assistant will:
- Write the strategy and draw it on the Chart tab.
- Pick a basket of 3 to 6 markets matched to the style of the strategy: a trend-following idea gets trending majors and commodities, a mean-reversion idea gets range-bound pairs, a breakout idea gets breakout-prone names.
- Backtest every market in one run. A card appears in the chat ("Backtesting 6 markets…") and fills in one market at a time as results land.
- Read the grid back to you and recommend the one or two markets where the strategy actually holds up.
The whole run typically takes a few seconds to ~20 seconds, and it happens once, when the strategy is born. Edits and tweaks after that are tested on your chosen market; the assistant doesn't re-run the whole basket every time you change a stop loss. You can always ask for another pass: "backtest this across markets again."
Reading the results card
Each market in the card is a chip showing the symbol, timeframe, return % and a grade letter (S down to F, which also factors in how the strategy compares to simply buying and holding). Profitable markets tint green.
- Click any chip to load that market's complete report (equity curve, drawdown, every trade) into the Backtest tab.
- The best market's report opens automatically when the run finishes, with the symbol and timeframe controls already set to match.
- In the Backtest tab's history strip, the run is grouped in a box labelled Batch, so a multi-market run never gets mixed up with your single-market runs.
For each market you get the same core numbers as any backtest: total return, win rate, profit factor, Sharpe, max drawdown and trade count. See Backtesting in HorizonAI for how to read the full report.
Which markets can be in the basket
The assistant picks from the same universe as the rest of the Horizon platform:
- Forex: majors and minors (EUR/USD, GBP/JPY, …)
- Metals: XAU/USD (gold), XAG/USD (silver)
- Crypto: BTC/USD, ETH/USD and other major pairs
- Stocks & ETFs: AAPL, NVDA, QQQ, SPY, …
- Futures: continuous contracts in TradingView style: ES1!, NQ1!, GC1!, CL1!
Timeframes run from 1m up to 1w; new-strategy baskets usually test on the daily.
Plan limits
- Free trial: up to 2 markets per multi-market run. Any further markets the assistant wanted to test show as locked chips; upgrading unlocks them.
- Paid plans (Starter, Pro, Elite): up to 12 markets per run.
Fine print
- Strategies only. An indicator has no entries, so there's nothing to test; the assistant will ask to turn it into a strategy first.
- The test window is the same as every Horizon backtest: roughly the most recent 1,000 bars, with the newest 250 bars held out as unseen data. Name a date range if you want a specific period: "backtest this across markets on 2020 to 2023."
- A multi-market run tells you where the edge lives. To find out whether the edge is real, run the stress test next.
